How to read a wine label? |
Wine labels are important sources of information for consumers. Some information are required by law:

1- « Burgundy Wine » or « Great Burgundy Wine » (Inner professional agreement)
2- Product description (the name of appellation followed by “Appellation Controlée” or “Appellation d’Origine Contrôlée “)
3- Health warning (advising that pregnant women refrain from drinking alcohol)
4- Alcohol content, expressed in % vol.
5- Country of origin for wine export
6- Nominal Volume
7- Name, address and title of bottler
8- Allergen notice (if SO2 > 10 mg/l)
Moreover, batch numbers (on label, rear label, neck label, glass or capsule…) are mandatory as Burgundy wines are all Appellation of Controlled Origin. |
