How to read a wine label?

Wine labels are important sources of information for consumers. Some information are required by law:

1- « Burgundy Wine » or « Great Burgundy Wine » (Inner professional agreement)

2- Product description (the name of appellation followed by “Appellation Controlée” or “Appellation d’Origine Contrôlée “)

3- Health warning (advising that pregnant women refrain from drinking alcohol)

4- Alcohol content, expressed in % vol.

5- Country of origin for wine export

6- Nominal Volume

7- Name, address and title of bottler

8- Allergen notice (if SO2 > 10 mg/l)

Moreover, batch numbers (on label, rear label, neck label, glass or capsule…) are mandatory as Burgundy wines are all Appellation of Controlled Origin.

Alcohol abuse puts your health at risk, consume and enjoy in moderation.
