The International Baroque Music Festival
July 3 to 26, 2009
This festival is one of the most prestigious baroque music festivals in Europe and hence keeps up the traditions of the Court of the Dukes of Burgundy, considered to be among the most glamorous and luxurious in the 15th century.
Four main principles inspire the artistic policy of the festival: a programme based on vocal baroque music, though not excluding other repertoires; the excellence of its productions; the performance of so far unpublished works according to the most recent musicological research and, as regards the engagement of directors, a policy which considers the highly renowned as well as the young directors of the new generation.
Performances of all genres (opera, sacred and profane music) by all great baroque directors, e.g. Léonhardt, Brüggen, Christie, Savall, Herreweghe, Kuijken, Jacobs, etc. make Beaune the meeting point for music enthusiasts.
The concerts take place on four weekends either in the famous Hospices de Beaune, an extraordinary 15th century Franco Flemish monument, or in the Basilica Notre Dame (12th century) with its remarkable Flemish 15th century tapestries relating the life of the Virgin Mary. |
