Parks & Gardens

Awarded a Gold Medal in European Floral competitions in 1990 and again in 2006, Beaune has gained a prestigious “4 flowers” under the “Villes & Villages Fleuris” (Towns and Villages in Bloom) label. This is a reward for the elegant, refined, creative planting of flowers to which the town of Beaune pays particular attention, along with landscape gardening in its parks, of which the following are the largest:

Situated in the town centre, at the foot of the “Comédie” rampart (near boulevard Maréchal Joffre and the Petites Buttes car park), this small, shady, floral garden is a haven of peace: a delightful place for a rest …or a picnic. The Open-air Theatre is laid out as a composite garden and makes reference to a variety of gardening styles in harmony with the architectural heritage: Medieval, French, Italian and English gardens.
The building in the centre of the garden is like a Greek temple and bears witness to the time when the public baths were sited here.

Opening dates and times:
1st February to 31st October: 7.45am to 8pm
1st November to 31st January: 7.45am to 6pm

The Parc de la Bouzaise is situated to the west of the town centre, at the foot of the Côte de Beaune vineyards, and is the largest park in Beaune. Listed as a natural and picturesque site in 1949, the Parc de la Bouzaise, was designed as an English-style garden, with a small zoo, a children’s playground and a lake where you can go boating.
For interest: The Parc de la Bouzaise was bought in the 19th century by the mayor, Paul Bouchard, who wanted to own lands around the source of the river known as “The Bouzaise” in order to ensure that the population of Beaune had a good-quality water supply.

Opening dates and times:
1st April to 31st October: 9am to 9pm
1st November to 31st January: 8am to 5pm
1st February to 31st March: 8am to 6pm

Next to the Parc de la Bouzaise, the Parc de la Creusotte has been recently re-styled in a contemporary spirit and with a concern for the environment. The park is totally given over to relaxation and well-being and is a pioneering concept, inviting walkers to explore nature on raised walkways to preserve the flora and fauna.

A rest area, picnic areas and a cycling halt made of natural, innovative materials are available for visitors searching for peace and quiet.

Opening dates and times:
1st April to 31st October: 9am to 9pm
1st November to 31st January: 8am to 5pm
1st February to 31st March: 8am to 6pm
