In November, join in the half-marathon of the Beaune wine auction, the most prestigious race in Burgundy
The Half-Marathon of the Hospices de Beaune Wine Auction takes the hilly roads which are so typical of the vineyards of the Côte de Beaune. The runners cross the most prestigious places and villages in Burgundy (Pommard, Meursault, Volnay) that provide the blend of friendship and folk atmosphere for the event. Musical entertainment and tastings add to the race.

History of the Beaune Wine Auction Half-Marathon

In 1986, the challenge of the Beaune Wine Auction Half-Marathon was created under the impetus of the Athletics Section of the Beaune Emulation Society (SEB). 450 runners took the start line for this first edition. In 1989, the course was held between Savigny-lès-Beaune, Pernand-Vergelesses and Aloxe-Corton. In 2001, it was modified and now follows the roads of Pommard, Volnay, Meursault and Monthélie. Since the creation of this challenge, the number of participants has continued increasing, reaching its record of 2475 runners ready to rise to the challenge in 2014!

Beaune Wine Auction Half-Marathon

The Beaune Wine Auction Half-Marathon became a sporting event and an unmissable gathering for many runners who enjoy their foray into the Beaune region to satisfy their passion for sport as well as to discover, over the course of the weekend, the many attributes of the town, its riches and specialities.

To get a large number of people involved in the event, several tests have been introduced over the years to enrich the traditional event programme: - Beaune Strides: 10.4 km race that follows the same routes as the Half-Marathon over a shorter course. - Youth Races: these take place all day Friday and are reserved for Beaune’s students. - Night Jogging: on Friday night, it’s a sporty and original way to discover the old town and ramparts of Beaune - Half-Hike: a tasty, sporty walk through the vineyards of the Côte.

The Half-Marathon: celebrity get-together

Celebrities from politics, sport (including Marie-José Perec in 2014, Sergey Bubka and Jason Lamy Chappuis in 2015), the arts ... and who also come for the wine auction, join in the Half-Marathon and Beaune Strides and, in the evening, attend the gala event at the Château de Meursault, during which evening event an auction takes place in support of two associations, one local, one national, to which are donated all the profits from the sales of two jeroboams of Meursault’s finest wines.
