Art du Tonneau is located in Vignoles, just a few minutes from Beaune town centre. We offer a unique experience for visitors who want to learn more about the art of cooperage and the secrets of barrel-making since the Gallic times in a fun, hands-on workshop.

During this workshop, you'll discover the different stages involved in making a barrel, how the wood is worked and chosen, and we'll give you a demonstration of the different tools we use. Afterwards, you'll have the chance to take part in a barrel race, a hoop-throwing game and learn how to assemble a barrel.

This workshop lasts between 1? and 2 hours and is divided into 3 parts. The first part is fun, with a talk on the history of barrels from the Gauls to the present day, on choosing and working with wood, and on shaping the staves. The second part will be hands-on, where you will be able to roll your own 228-litre barrel and take part in barrel assembly. Finally, there's a theoretical part where we'll explain toasting, barrel finishing and the current market. Before you leave, take part in an original game on the aromas of toasting!
