Pierre et Son
Vocal music through the centuries
by Josquin, Tallis, Byrd, Monteverdi, Durufle and Poulenc

Burgundy is one of Europe's most sonorous cultural landscapes:

Burgundian music, with its combination of refined polyphony and sensual expressiveness, spread far and wide throughout the rest of Europe and influenced court and sacred music, especially in the 15th century.

At the same time, the country is still marked today by the quiet radiance of its Romanesque churches - scattered across the landscape, powerful and sober at the same time. From imposing abbeys to small village churches, these are sonorous spaces of stone, filled with history and spirituality.

Ensemble Resonance follows in these footsteps and brings the spirit of these places to life in vocal music spanning several centuries: works by Dufay, Josquin and Orlando di Lasso meet the richly colourful sound language of the 20th century - for example in compositions by Francis Poulenc and Maurice Duruflé.

Conducted by Johannes Tolle
