- Wine capital of Burgundy, with its trading houses that receive visitors in ancient convents with exceptional wine cellars, Beaune grew up on a former Roman castrum, and is a town rich in heritage. It’s famous for its iconic Hôtel-Dieu from 1443 with its glazed tile roofs, its 12th-century Notre Dame Collegiate, "set" of black virgin and tapestries from the 15th century, courtyards and gardens. City of Art, home of Ziem and Maurice Emmanuel, boasting two museums, Beaune is also a melting pot of festivals, including the famous international festival of baroque and romantic opera, and a "concert venue" for great virtuosos of gastronomy. Not to mention its flagship event, the wine sale of the Hospices on the 3rd Sunday in November.
