Meursault’s vineyard opens a golden door, that of "La Côte des Blancs" in Burgundy, south of Beaune, between Volnay and Puligny-Montrachet. On this exceptional land, the wines of Meursault glorify the art of Chardonnay, Burgundy grape varietal for white wines.

Burgundy Wine, Meursault: a "Mouse’s Jump"

They say that the name Meursault means "Mouse’s Jump" because, in the past, the plots producing red wine would not have been separated from those producing white by more than a mouse’s jump. Today, Meursault vineyard of almost 400 hectares is mostly planted with Chardonnay, with hills rising on a gentle slope between 230 and 360 metres high.

Burgundy Wine, Meursault village

In the middle, the village of Meursault with its beautiful wine châteaux, prosperous village houses and the spire of the Gothic church that seems to tease the clouds, is a dream, but the important work goes on underground. For this is where the alchemy, dosed with just the right proportion of clay, limestone and marl, prepares the inimitable style of the wines of Meursault in Burgundy. The Cistercian monks who became winemaking monks worked it out too when, in the 11th century, they set this vineyard to work.

Burgundy wine, Meursault style

A clear and bright golden-green colour, a nose of great finesse with aromas of lime, hawthorn and butter notes, hazelnuts and honey depending on the “climat”, i.e the soil – that’s the calling card of a Meursault wine. Whether you’re an amateur or a connoisseur, the aromatic power of the wine of Meursault, a magical balance between smoothness and freshness, and its length on the palate impress.

Meursault Premiers Crus

Among the 19 “climats” classified as premiers crus, it’s the legendary names,Meursault Charmes, Meursault les Perrières, Meursault Genevrières and Meursault Gouttes d’Or that you cannot mention without thinking of the dishes that could accompany them: chicken in white sauce, trout with almonds and grilled shellfish, and why not a blue cheese?

Did you know?

In this ocean of Chardonnay, some plots located next to Volnay have remained faithful to Pinot Noir. Among the people of Meursault, it is said jokingly that this is the best Volnay! This production, though restricted (13 hectares of which are premiers crus), offers a wine of elegance and lace, with aromas of red berries and black cherries.
