The symbol of Burgundy, you can see the famous glazed tiles of the Hôtel-Dieu (Hospices de Beaune) from Bretonnière Boulevard. The times had certainly changed since the days when our ancestors provided their outer roofs with more discreet grey slate tiles so as not to attract the attention of greedy robbers!
Founded in 1443 by Nicolas Rolin, this former hospital for the poor has a collection of some 5000 objects including the famous polyptych of the "Last Judgement" by Rogier van der Weyden. An architectural wonder and historical treasure not to be missed.
