Born in 1984 in Nancy, he lives and works in Dijon. Coordinator of the Hors d'Œuvre workshop at the Beaune Fine Arts School (a workshop designed to raise awareness of contemporary art in rural areas), he also teaches painting, academic drawing and printmaking at EMAP Mâcon.
"I take an incisive look at the world. I question the fundamental issues of our time and of an older past. I draw on a range of media and iconic documents that I make my own.
I assert my references: David Hockney, Alex Katz... which I appropriate freely. The starting point are black and white photographs from the 1950s, found at second-hand shops, lent by friends or taken from my family archives.
I never use the photographs in their entirety. I select, choose and isolate formal elements and figures that I inject into the process of creating the canvas.
I use this intimate raw material to question and reposition the components of the painting, layer by layer, methodically.
I do it ruthlessly, raw, with a scalpel.
It took intense human activity to produce the common idea of a rotting, soiled, fallen nature, reappropriated, that's for sure, at the beginning of the 21st century. The painter at the start of this new millennium has a duty to update the genre of landscape within his medium, as well as that of still life, portraiture and even history painting, which brings together all the genres... All these questions are at the heart of my painting.
