It's D-Day! The naïve, bourgeois Sganarelle is to marry the dapper, feisty Dorimène this very evening. All is well in the best of worlds... Until the bride-to-be announces that she sees marriage as the promise of a life of wealth and independence. Sganarelle is disconcerted by the libertarian views of the woman he thought he dominated, and tries everything to have the marriage annulled.
