To warm hearts

A traditional wine festival

Burgundy is a land of sharing, and Burgundians are refined gosiers, refined palates and bon vivants. The Saint-Vincent Tournante festival will convince you of this. If you’re wondering where the Fête de la Saint-Vincent Tournante comes from, what it’s about, where and when it will be held in 2026, I invite you to read this article. You’ll also find out when the Saint-Vincent de Beaune takes place – yes, there are several Saint-Vincent’s…

What is Saint-Vincent Tournante?

Every year, on a frosty January morning, an endless column of the faithful makes its way between the vines. This is the Saint-Vincent Tournante festival, and the whole of Burgundy is in jubilation. The festivities begin with this procession, followed by a high mass and a banquet during which some 12,000 bottles are poured. Rotating? Because the festival changes village every year, to honour another appellation and showcase the diversity of Burgundy’s wine-growing terroirs. The village pulls out all the stops for a year or two to welcome several thousand people for this memorable weekend.

Why is Saint-Vincent celebrated in Burgundy?

Saint-Vincent is the patron saint of winegrowers, honoured since the Middle Ages. In 1938, the Confrérie des Chevaliers du Tastevin decided to relaunch this fête, which had run out of steam, and it was a success.

Where and when will Saint-Vincent be held in 2026?

January is the time when winegrowers start pruning their vines again, and so it is on this date that this great celebration of the winegrowing world takes place. It has its origins in the spirit of solidarity of the village confrères, who invented a “social security” to help winegrowers in distress, who were ill or suffering from bad weather. Since then, every village has had a statue of its own Saint Vincent, who will stay with a family for a whole year. At the end of January, confrères from all over wine-growing Burgundy travel to the designated village to celebrate their patron saint. Whether it’s a health crisis or a pandemic, nothing will get the better of Saint-Vincent. The pugnaciousness of the people of Burgundy kept this beautiful festival alive. The festival will be held in the village of Couchey in 2023, in Morey-Saint-Denis in 2024 and in Ladoix-Serrigny in 2025.

In 2026, it will take place in the Maranges between Côte d’Or and Saône et Loire, in the villages of Dezize, Sampigny and Cheilly on 24 and 25 January 2026.

Saint-Vincent 2026

In 2026, the date of Saint-Vincent is, as every year, 22 January. It will be celebrated the following weekend: 24 and 25 January 2026 in the villages of

Sampigny-les-Maranges

What to do during a Saint-Vincent tournante?

Tastings, entertainment, brotherhood parades, concerts, children's games, Burgundian traditions, etc.

The entire Burgundy wine-growing region will be travelling to the designated village to celebrate its patron saint.

As in Astérix, it always ends with a banquet, but let’s take it from the beginning… First of all, there’s a village and its bévoles who have worked all year to organise a fête that may not return for another 30 years. All the generations have worked hard to showcase the village’s heritage, anticipating the pride of welcoming people from far and wide. But let’s be clear, it’s a bit like going to the theatre: there are ‘tableaux’ that change from year to year, but that we love: A display of multicoloured banners floating in the winter sunshine, thousands of garlands of colourful flowers, grapes in harvest baskets and vintage wine-making equipment showing the work of the winemakers in a landscape of sleeping vines, welcome to Saint-Vincent! After mass, the impressive parade of saints rivals the finest Pardons in Brittany, with no fewer than 100 colleagues taking part! Last but not least, the prestigious Confrérie des Chevaliers du Tastevin, whose rituals are inspired by the last orders of chivalry of the Burgundy court, thanks former winegrowers and winemakers, some of them very famous, by enthroning them…

What to do before you come to Burgundy for Saint-Vincent des Maranges?

The winegrowers organising Saint-Vincent have pulled out all the stops to ensure you have an incredible weekend. Plunge into the heart of Burgundy tradition and experience an exceptional Saint-Vincent between tastings, a dinner banquet, musical entertainment and conviviality.

Oenology and tasting of local products

And, between two tastings, you’ll be able to enjoy a meal in the good old-fashioned way, and while it’s a far cry from the pig’s dinner of yesteryear, the taverns dotted around the village will tempt you with local produce such as snails, parsley-glazed ham and Burgundian beef. Depending on the village, a gastronomic banquet (sometimes with the help of the region’s many renowned chefs) is offered for lunch or dinner, with the added bonus of good-natured Burgundian folk music and song.

A village in celebration

A festive village also means musical groups, exhibitions and events to celebrate the wines and the work of the vine. In the late afternoon, after you’ve had a good look around the village, take the opportunity to go for a walk. There’s always a little vineyard path on the hillside where you can burn off some excess calories. Away from the hustle and bustle of the village, the winter scenery is as peaceful as it is sumptuous, and who knows, maybe you’ll be lucky enough to catch a sunset?

It’s a great way to get away from it all!

And the Saint-Vincent de Beaune: what is it then?

Every year, Beaune’s winegrowers organise festivities including a wine tasting and banquet in the imposing bastion of the Hospices de Beaune. The Confrérie de la Saint-Vincent de Beaune and the ODG des Vins de Beaune are organising the Saint-Vincent de Beaune festival. It begins with a religious ceremony, followed by tastings in the afternoon. Beaune wines are drunk and tasted in the Chapelle Saint-Etienne. The day ends with the ceremonies to hand over the Saint-Vincent de Beaune to one of Beaune’s winegrowing estates, which will keep it warm for a whole year. A procession follows, with music, juggling and street arts. And as always in Burgundy, it all ends with a banquet – the winegrowers’ banquet, of course! You’ll have to wait a while for the dates of the Saint-Vincent de Beaune. Now that you know almost everything, the best thing to do is to come to Burgundy and enjoy this festive experience.
