Saint Vincent’s Day celebration

In Burgundy, we appreciate moments of sharing.

The Saint-Vincent Tournante 2026 is over and will return in 2027 for its 83rd edition!

See you in Volnay on 30 and 31 January 2027.

To warm hearts

A traditional wine festival

Burgundy is a land of sharing, and the Burgundians are refined gullets, refined palates and bon vivants. The Fête de la Saint-Vincent Tournante will convince you of this.

If you’re wondering where the Fête de la Saint-Vincent Tournante comes from, what it’s all about, and where and when it will be held in 2027, I invite you to read this article. You’ll also find out when the Saint-Vincent de Beaune festival takes place – yes, there are several Saint-Vincent festivals…

What is Saint-Vincent Tournante?

Every year, on a frosty January morning, an endless column of worshippers make their way through the vineyards. It’s the Feast of Saint-Vincent Tournante and the whole of Burgundy is in jubilation.

The festival begins with this procession, followed by a high mass and a banquet during which some 12,000 bottles are uncorked.

Rotating? Because the festival changes village each year, to honour a different appellation and showcase the diversity of Burgundy’s wine-growing terroirs. The village pulls out all the stops for a year or two to welcome several thousand people for this memorable weekend.

Why is Saint-Vincent celebrated in Burgundy?

Saint-Vincent is the patron saint of winegrowers, and has been honoured since the Middle Ages. In 1938, the Confrérie des Chevaliers du Tastevin decided to relaunch this festival, which had run out of steam, and it was a success.

Where and when will Saint-Vincent's Day be held in 2027?

January is the time when winegrowers start pruning their vines again, and so this is when this great festival of the wine world takes place.

It has its origins in the spirit of solidarity of the village brotherhoods, who invented a “social security system” to come to the aid of winegrowers in distress, sick or suffering from the vagaries of the weather. Since then, each village has had a statue of its own Saint Vincent, who stays with a family for a whole year.

At the end of January, brotherhoods from all over wine-growing Burgundy travel to the designated village to celebrate their patron saint. A health crisis, a pandemic – nothing could get the better of Saint Vincent. The pugnacity of the people of Burgundy enabled this wonderful festival to continue.

The festival will be held in the village of Couchey in 2023, in Morey-Saint-Denis in 2024, in Ladoix-Serrigny in 2025 and in the villages of Maranges in 2026.

In 2027, it will take place in Volnay on 30 and 31 January 2027.

Saint-Vincent 2027

In 2027, the date of Saint-Vincent is, as it is every year, 22 January.

It will be celebrated the following weekend: 30 and 31 January 2027 in Volnay.

Volnay is hosting this festival for only the third time in its history: the last time it was held was in 1986!

What to do during a Saint-Vincent tournante?

Tastings, entertainment, brotherhood parades, concerts, children's games, Burgundian traditions, etc.

The entire Burgundy wine-growing region will be travelling to the designated village to celebrate its patron saint.

As in Asterix, it always ends with a banquet, but let’s take it from the beginning… First of all, there’s a village and its volunteers who have worked all year to organise a festival that may not return for another 30 years.

All generations have worked hard to showcase the village’s heritage, anticipating the pride of welcoming people from next door or from the ends of the earth.

But let’s set the scene, it’s a bit like theatre, there are ‘tableaux’ that are repeated year after year but that we love: a display of multicoloured banners floating in the winter sunshine, thousands of garlands of colourful flowers, grapes overflowing from harvest baskets and vintage wine-making equipment evoking the work of the winegrowers in a landscape of sleeping vines – welcome to Saint-Vincent!

After mass, the impressive parade of saints rivals the finest Pardons in Brittany, with no fewer than 100 brotherhoods taking part!

Finally, the prestigious Confrérie des Chevaliers du Tastevin, whose rituals are inspired by the last orders of chivalry of the Burgundian court, thanks the old winegrowers and winemakers, sometimes very moved, by enthroning them…

In the name of Noah, father of the vine In the name of Bacchus, god of wine And in the name of Saint Vincent, patron saint of winegrowers, I make you a Chevalier du Tastevin

The banquettop chefs

Every year, the Palais des Congrès in Beaune becomes the setting for an exceptional culinary event. A veritable showcase for Burgundy’s expertise, this venue hosts prestigious gala dinners celebrating the alliance between haute cuisine and the region’s great wines.

A unique sensory experience:

    • Signature de Chefs: banquets orchestrated by renowned chefs (Meilleurs Ouvriers de France, Michelin-starred chefs or world champions), guaranteeing refined, creative cuisine.
    • Multi-course menus: guests enjoy a complete taste journey, often built around a specific theme linked to the local terroir.
    • Food and wine pairings: Each dish is designed to sublimate the selected vintages, offering a total immersion in wine-growing excellence.
    • Atmosphere and entertainment : Beyond the food, these evenings are punctuated by musical performances and cultural events, transforming the meal into a real spectacle.

It’s all about excellence, conviviality and highlighting our region’s gastronomic heritage.

What to do before you come to Burgundy for Saint-Vincent?

The winegrowers who are organising the Saint-Vincent event have pulled out all the stops to ensure you have an incredible weekend. Plunge into the heart of Burgundy tradition and experience an exceptional Saint-Vincent, with tastings, a banquet dinner, musical entertainment and conviviality.

Oenology and tasting of local products

And between two tastings, you can enjoy a meal à la bonne franquette, and while it’s a far cry from the pig’s dinner of yesteryear, the stalls dotted around the village will delight you with local products such as snails, parsleyed ham and Burgundian beef.

Depending on the village, a gastronomic banquet (sometimes with the help of the region’s many Michelin-starred chefs) is offered for lunch or dinner, with the added bonus of lively Burgundian folk music and song.

A village in celebration

Un village en fête also features musical groups, exhibitions and events to help you discover the wines and work in the vineyards. In the late afternoon, after touring the village, take the opportunity to go for a walk. There’s always a little wine trail on the hillside to help you burn off those extra calories. Away from the hustle and bustle of the village, the winter landscape is as peaceful as it is sumptuous, and who knows, maybe you’ll be lucky enough to catch a sunset?

And the Saint-Vincent de Beaune: what is it then?

Every year, the Beaune winegrowers organise festivities including wine tasting and a banquet in the imposing bastion of the Hospices de Beaune.
The Confrérie de la Saint-Vincent de Beaune and the ODG des Vins de Beaune organise the Saint-Vincent de Beaune festival. It begins with a religious ceremony, followed by tastings in the afternoon. Beaune wines are uncorked and tasted at the Chapelle Saint-Etienne. The day ends with the ceremonies to hand over the Saint-Vincent de Beaune to one of the Beaune wineries, which will keep it warm for a whole year. A procession follows, with music, juggling and street arts. And as always in Burgundy, it all ends with a banquet – the winegrowers’ banquet, of course!

You’ll have to wait a while for the dates of the Saint-Vincent de Beaune.

Now that you know almost everything, the best thing to do is to come to Burgundy and enjoy this festive experience.

La Cousinerie de Bourgogne is organising the

Saint-Vincent Chapter

in Savigny-les-Beaune

Every year, the special Saint-Tournante goutaillon returns after the big Saint-Vincent Tournante weekend. This very Burgundian event is one of the 3 annual chapters offered by the Cousinerie de Bourgogne.

The Cousinerie de Bourgogne organises an evening of hunting horns, Happy Burgundians, corks popping and famous and not-so-famous inductees.
