History of the Beaune Wine Sale Half Marathon
In 1986 the Vente des Vins de Beaune half-marathon event was created under the impetus of the Athletics Section of the Société d’Emulation Beaunoise (S.E.B.). The first edition attracted 450 runners. In 1989, the route ran between Savigny-lès-Beaune, Pernand-Vergelesses and Aloxe-Corton. In 2001, the route was modified to include Pommard, Volnay, Meursault and Monthélie. Since the event’s inception, the number of participants has grown steadily, reaching its all-time record in 2014 of 2,475 runners ready for battle! Every year, more than 5,000 participants, mainly from the Burgundy, Franche-Comté, Île de France and Rhône Alpes regions, set off on the Semi (21.100 km)
and Foulées (10.400 km) courses.
