Description
As it has done every year since 2019, the Château du Clos de Vougeot will be celebrating the legendary ‘œuf en meurette’ recipe on 9, 10 and 11 October 2026!
Three days, three highlights! This 8th edition, celebrating the ‘œuf en meurette’ recipe, promises a packed programme with a flagship competition each day: the Apprentice Competition on Friday 9 October, the Amateur Competition on Saturday 10 October, followed by the World ‘Œuf en Meurette’ Championship and the Gastronomic Dinner on Sunday 11 October 2026.
THE WORLD ‘ŒUF EN MEURETTE’ CHAMPIONSHIP AT THE CHÂTEAU DU CLOS DE VOUGEOT
The Château du Clos de Vougeot, a mecca of French gastronomy, boasts expertise recognised throughout the world; it is the undisputed temple of the œuf en meurette. Since 1953, this dish – one of the finest symbols of Burgundian cuisine – has been served at every meal organised at the château. Whilst the menu varies for each reception, only the œuf en meurette features on the menu. The resident chef, Alexandra Bouvret, pulls off the technical feat of serving 1,200 perfectly poached ‘œufs en meurette’ to 600 guests in exactly five minutes. Building on this speciality… and feat, the château decided in 2019 to create a unifying culinary event: the World Championship of the ‘Œuf en Meurette®’, enabling national and international chefs to compete for the annual title of World Champion.
JEAN-FRANÇOIS PIÈGE, CHAIRMAN OF THE JURY
Following in the footsteps of prestigious previous chairpersons – from Éric Briffard to Virginie Basselot, via Georges Blanc and Prince Albert II of Monaco – it is the two-Michelin-starred chef Jean-François Piège who will chair this new edition.
At the helm of several restaurants, this chef embodies a discerning and vibrant style of cooking, perfectly in keeping with the spirit of the championship, which celebrates an iconic dish and French culinary expertise.
