Play À Kan la Dériv’ Theatre Company This is the story of Basile, a child with a boundless – and sometimes troublesome – imagination, who is confronted with the reality of his first day at school. For Basile, everything is an excuse to play and dream: his cup of hot chocolate? A telescope! His dad’s tie? A sword! From home to school, via the street and the playground, Basile often finds himself in a bit of a pickle, as his tendency to repurpose everyday objects provokes a variety of reactions – not always positive ones. Set against a backdrop of wooden blocks, puppets bring this important stage in his life to life across eight scenes, representing eight different hours of the day. Anthony Diaz, with great sensitivity and humour, explores the learning and attention difficulties of a child with a ‘dys’ condition, whilst highlighting the power of the imagination and the richness that difference can hold.
