Description
When Molière meets commedia dell'arte
Molière has never ceased to inspire Italy. But this Vecchio Avaro, premiered in Venice some fifty years after the original, was not yet known. Perfectly faithful to the spirit of the comedy and compressed into three acts, Salvi's libretto is brought to life by Gasparini's delightful score, which is entirely sung.
Vincent Dumestre, who has been working with Jean-Baptiste Poquelin since his memorable Bourgeois Gentilhomme 20 years ago, has joined forces this time with director Théophile Gasselin to restore this Avare to its original freshness, that of a colourful troupe theatre. An event, and the first stage production of the Beaune Festival!
