Description
The Balance of the Bicycle
Advaïta L Compagnie – Sarath Amarasingam
In India, it is said that the god Shiva Natarajah created the world through dance! Drawing inspiration from this mythology, choreographer Sarath Amarasingam has devised a journey of self-reinvention, born of his own experience of being torn between his Indian culture and his host culture, France.
Through the character of Ganesh, the audience is invited on a sweeping choreographic journey. Drawing inspiration from Indian dance and hip-hop, the piece takes shape as a trio of dancers moving to hybrid music, bridging the gap between breath and the heart, between India and the West, between the tabla and the drums of composer Philippe Foch.
To reinvent oneself is to destroy, preserve and create; it is a back-and-forth between the inner self and the outside world. It is like finding your balance on a bicycle: to avoid falling, you have to pedal!
