The woodcutter lives alone, recluse in a hut, watching over the last tree in the country. The child grows up in a wooden corset that tightens around her a little more every day, and will soon suffocate her: she needs a new, wider corset, carved from the trunk of a tree.
But the woodcutter doesn't want to sacrifice his tree, the last vestige of a vanished nature. This gives rise to a fragmented dialogue between them, in which past characters and future dreams rub shoulders: The stubborn child with nothing left to lose and the gruff woodcutter who has lost almost everything will clumsily try to tame each other. Stéphane Jaubertie's magnificent fable, poetic and often comical, is full of deep questions, leading us to search together for the common path to mutual understanding!
