Since 1984, the European Heritage Days 2025 have provided an opportunity for everyone to discover the riches of French culture and heritage.

Many sites offer unique tours, whilst others are open to the public on an exceptional basis.

Here is the programme for the 2025 event, taking place on 20 and 21 September in the Beaune region.

The City of Beaune is opening up its heritage sites to visitors and offering a range of unusual tours. [Re]discover the rich heritage of the wine capital of Burgundy during these two exceptional days.

at the Cité des Climats et vins de Bourgogne

    • Saturday 19 and Sunday 20 September, 10.00–13.00 / 14.00–17.00

Special opening of the Salle Vergnette de Lamotte: Have you heard of the Salle Vergnette de Lamotte? And what about Alfred Vergnette de Lamotte,
an agronomist and oenologist from the Beaune region, a contemporary of Pasteur? Usually closed to the public, the former
ceremonial hall of the Chamber of Commerce and Industry houses historical treasures dating back to
the 1889 Paris World’s Fair: there you’ll find a relief map of the Côte d’Or vineyards as well
the display that had been designed at the time to present Burgundy wines at the
World’s Fair.

SPECIAL SCHOOLS’ EVENT

    • Friday 18 September: CHILDREN’S HERITAGE DAY at 10.00 am and 2.00 pm
      As part of Heritage Children’s Day, the Association des Climats will welcome two school classes
      for a tour of the Cité des Climats et des Vins de Bourgogne and a workshop on the built heritage
      of the Climats: ‘A journey into the heart of glazed roofs’. During this workshop, the pupils will decorate
      their own roof tile, drawing inspiration from the polychromatic designs found on the iconic monuments of the
      Climats region (the Hospices de Beaune, St Bénigne’s Cathedral, Meursault Town Hall, Château
      de Corton, Château de La Rochepot, the mansions of Dijon and Beaune, etc.).

In Chagny

Chagny’s heritage sites will be open to the public for the European Heritage Days. You will be able to visit:

    • The Théâtre des Copiaus and an exhibition of archive photographs of Chagny – Saturday: 2 pm to 6 pm and Sunday: 10 am to 12 noon and 3 pm to 6 pm
    • The Hospital’s Apothecary and the Hospital Council Chamber – Saturday: 2 pm to 6 pm and Sunday: 3 pm to 6 pm
    • Saint-Martin’s Church – Saturday and Sunday, throughout the day, except during services

And make the most of your Sunday morning between visits by strolling around the Chagny market, a must-see for food lovers in Burgundy.

This small town in Burgundy has plenty of surprises in store. Known for its wines, it is also a spa town. And it boasts an unrivalled heritage, exemplified by the Moulin Sorine and the Church of Saint-Jean de Narosse, which are unmissable during the European Heritage Days.

In Savigny-lès-Beaune

Heritage Days are a chance to visit some unmissable sites. Savigny-lès-Beaune Castle is joining in the fun and welcoming you with a special Heritage Days discount. And it’s not just a castle – three incredible museums showcase a collection of vintage vehicles: aeroplanes, fire engines, motorbikes, Abarths… An absolute must-see.

Come and explore the cabottes and a perfectly preserved wash house on a guided walk of around 5km!

A welcome drink will be provided at the end of the walk, and please make sure you wear suitable footwear!

At Clos de Vougeot

Come and celebrate Heritage Days at the Château!

On the programme:

    • Self-guided or guided tours to immerse yourself in 900 years of the Château’s history.
    • A 100% Burgundian musical atmosphere with the Trio de Vougeot: Patrick Gutrin, Dominique Remoissenet and Christian Codfert.

Not to be missed: a living history of the Confrérie des Chevaliers du Tastevin!

    • In the Renaissance drawing room, discover the art of bookbinding with Frédéric Marat (Atelier Pagina) and the Brotherhood’s guest book, presented alongside archivist Margot Cigan.
    • Special opening of the château’s chapel!
      Gain access for the first time to this restored 16th-century chapel, adorned with murals, a stained-glass window depicting Saint Vincent and a new altar.
    • Exhibition: “Brillat-Savarin, or the Birth of Gastronomy”
      To mark the bicentenary of the publication of his work, this exhibition traces the life and legacy of the famous gastronome through artefacts, writings and anecdotes.
