Painting restoration: the example of *La Croix Vivante*. Jade Delamer, conservator-restorer, takes us behind the scenes to reveal the key stages (protection, reattachment, cleaning, etc.) involved in the restoration of this 16th-century painting on wood. A fascinating insight into the challenges of conserving historic artworks.

Tales from the Lagoon and Beyond: Let yourself be transported by the stories hidden behind Venetian artworks. The O les mains theatre company presents immersive musical tales to bring the paintings to life and spark your imagination.

Venice Workshop: Gondolas and Masks: Immerse yourself in the atmosphere of the famous Carnival! Give free rein to your creativity by colouring in your ideal mask or the gondola of your dreams.

  • ‘Discover Venice’ Colouring Book Workshop: In partnership with the Club Italiano Beaunois, take a journey through Venice by colouring in an illustrated book, whilst having fun learning some basic Italian vocabulary (ages 6 to 99).
  • ‘Café Florian’ Workshop: In a recreation of the famous café, take part in a mini-play to help others guess iconic figures from Venice. A friendly and cultural experience.
  • Félix Ziem’s Puzzles Workshop: Piece together the artist’s paintings in jigsaw puzzle form. A fun way to examine his works in detail.
  • Quiz: Do you know Félix Ziem? Test your knowledge of the painter’s life and work with this interactive game.

Tour of the Maison Calvet: Discover the history and transformations of an iconic Beaune landmark: from the ramparts and the Marie de Bourgogne Tower to the Maison Calvet and its contemporary developments. A tour exploring archives, different perspectives on heritage and the site’s current uses.

The restoration of sketchbooks: the example of Félix Ziem’s travel sketchbooks. Coralie Barbe, a conservator, traces the evolution of artists’ sketchbooks in the 19th century. Using Félix Ziem as an example, discover how the creation and use of these tools supported the creativity of painters.

Discover the tapestries depicting the Virgin Mary: this is an exceptional collection of five 16th-century tapestries, still in their original locations. You will also be able to view the Basilica’s stained-glass windows during two guided tours (2.30 pm–4.00 pm)

Talk: How can we live in the châteaux of Côte-d’Or today?
A discussion with Philippe Charlot, photographer, about his
book *Les Veilleurs de pierres: Dreams and Battles of Today’s Castles*
of today.

The talk will be followed by a book-signing session in partnership with
the bookshop Des Livres et des Hommes.

Exhibition: ‘Daniel Hénon, painting the movement of the world’: Daniel Hénon, a tender illustrator for L’École des Loisirs, was also an artist sensitive to the diversity of the world, as evidenced by his
paintings, posters and artist’s sketchbooks featured in this exhibition.

Self-guided tours: Wander around Beaune’s Municipal Theatre, discover its architecture, dressing rooms, balconies, backstage areas and hidden corners. The whole team will be on hand to welcome you and answer any questions you may have.

Guided tours: Behind the scenes. As every year, the Beaune Municipal Theatre offers a two-part guided tour of the building, exploring its history, anecdotes, the various roles within the theatre and its current activities. You’ll also be able to discover how lighting is created in the theatre and what technical tricks are used to make the magic happen on stage.

A former 13th-century chapel, for several centuries it served as the place of worship attached to the Hôpital du Saint-Esprit, which predated the Hôtel-Dieu.

Just like the famous Salle des Pôvres, the chapel features a roof structure shaped like an inverted ship’s hull. It survived the closure of the hospital and was used for a time to house infantry troops, before being converted into a wine cellar in the 20th century.

Its renovation by the Beaune & Pays Beaunois Tourist Office, to serve as its administrative headquarters, has given it a new lease of life as it enters the 21st century.

Beaune, between courtyards and gardens – with a scent workshop: An immersive stroll both inside and outside the city walls. We step through the gates to discover ecclesiastical gardens, intimate ornamental gardens and little havens of tranquillity. We’ll also wander through spots perfect for contemplative strolls or amongst the majestic trees of a romantic park. During the scent workshop, Marie-France Bravard, a perfume enthusiast, will take us on a sensory journey, drawing on our memories of the places we’ve visited and the scents associated with them. It’ll be up to you to create Beaune’s very own fragrance!
